Stewardship

Stewardship at McLeod Family Office

Three responsibilities, held separately.

McLeod Family Office coordinates the long-term stewardship of the family’s enterprise interests, capital and continuity through disciplined oversight, defined authority and a multi-generational perspective.

The Office serves one family. It does not solicit third-party capital, manage external client assets or offer investment products to the public.

01 / Enterprise

Long-term ownership. Clear separation of responsibility.

The Office supports the long-term stewardship of family enterprise interests through ownership principles, board discipline, strategic oversight and clear reporting.

Operating businesses retain their own boards, executives and day-to-day management.

Ownership discipline

Where the family has an ownership interest, oversight is exercised through defined mandates and appropriate decision rights—not through an assumed universal management role.

Governance and reporting

Board-level information, material decisions and reporting arrangements are coordinated under the responsibilities of the relevant entity and its governing bodies.

Long-horizon orientation

Enterprise interests are evaluated through the lens of continuity, operational resilience and long-term stewardship rather than short-term display.

02 / Capital

Patient capital. Deliberate risk. Preserved optionality.

Family capital is considered on a long horizon, with deliberate attention to liquidity, concentration, resilience, risk and compounding across cycles. Detailed allocations and performance are private.

Long horizon

Capital decisions are evaluated across cycles and generations, rather than against short reporting periods.

Liquidity and resilience

Liquidity, concentration, leverage, counterparty exposure and downside scenarios are considered alongside expected opportunities.

Concentration discipline

Concentration may be appropriate where the family has knowledge, control or a durable advantage; it is a governed choice, not an accidental exposure.

Independent expertise

External legal, tax, banking, insurance and specialist expertise is used when independent judgment or regulated knowledge is required.

Review

Material exposures, costs and policy alignment are reviewed through defined reporting and governance cycles.

Private Mandate

No public investment products, no solicitation or acceptance of third-party capital and no management of external client assets.

03 / Continuity

Prepare the transition before the transition arrives.

Succession, decision rights and the transfer of responsibility are established before the point of need and reviewed on a defined schedule.

Succession

Leadership and ownership transitions are planned early and reviewed periodically, with responsibilities assigned under appropriate governance.

Preparation

Future stewards are prepared through education, exposure, responsibility and governance participation appropriate to readiness.

Institutional memory

Material decisions, mandates, policies and records are documented so the continuity of institutional judgment is not dependent on one person.

Emergency authority

Critical functions are supported by delegated authorities, escalation paths and continuity arrangements for unexpected disruption.

Review cadence

Governance and succession arrangements are revisited as the family, enterprise and applicable jurisdictions evolve.

Institutional Discipline

Stewardship depends on defined authority.

Enterprise, capital and continuity are related responsibilities, but they do not erase the boundaries between family decisions, the Family Office’s coordinating mandate, purpose-specific legal entities, and the boards and management of operating businesses. Material authority should be documented, delegated deliberately and exercised within the responsibilities of the relevant body or entity.

Separate vehicles are used for separate purposes. The Office coordinates stewardship within its mandate; legal and operational responsibilities remain with their appropriate entities and governing bodies.
